Description:
This CPS & CPPS Community of Practice Session will be about meeting youth and families where they are at and working to build the connections through culturally significant ways, peer support and strength based language.

Description:
In this Supervisor’s Community of Practice, Gaochi will be sharing how her collectivist roots have framed a foundation of skills that ground her in mindfulness – mindfulness of her actions and mindfulness of those who are impacted by her actions. She calls this “actions that lead with community care and land with collective healing”. Together, with peers, she hopes to open dialogue on community care and how a collective approach can shift a work culture that moves people together in a team, even in systems of hierarchies.

Nze (they/them or she/hers) is a CPS, CPS trainer, TA Consultant, and the Peer Services Manager for Soar Case Management, Inc. Nze views peer support work as a fundamentally restorative practice and believes it has the power to reduce and prevent systemic harm, support marginalized communities in a more complete way, and bring radical acceptance to the forefront of mental health and substance use care.
Brittyn Calyx of Access to Independence, Wisconsin Peer Specialist Employment Initiative (WIPSEI)
Brittyn (pronouns: xe, xem, xyr or she, her, hers) is a trans femme, non-binary Wisconsin Certified Peer Specialist currently serving as the Peer Specialist Program Manager for the Wisconsin Peer Specialist Employment Initiative at Access to Independence. Xe hopes to expand access to peer support that is rooted in a non-violent, collective liberation framework.

“‘Something’s Changed’: When Youth are Struggling (Pandemic Impact Series)” ~ February 17th, 2022 from 1:30pm-3pm CST
Guest facilitators: Carmella Glenn of WI Department of Health Services and Kaziah Anderson of Just Dane
Carmella is CPS and CPS trainer and the Peer Run Respite & Peer Services Coordinator at the Division of Care and Treatment Services. Kaziah is a CPS and CPPS and is studying Community and Nonprofit Leadership at UW-Madison, with a focus on adolescent development and the effects of parental incarceration on children and families.
Description:
Guest facilitators, Carmella Glenn, CPS, CPS Trainer and Kaziah Anderson, CPS, CPPS, will facilitate a discussion on how those in peer specialist and parent peer specialist roles can respond to better support youth and our communities. The guest facilitators will also share how those in peer support roles have done just that with community collaborators and partners at East High School in Madison, WI in recent months.
When the violence at East High School escalated to the point of police macing students, Mom’s On A Mission (M.O.M.’s) was formed by 4 mothers of EHS students, who are also alumni of EHS. These M.O.M.s began forming a group to encourage the community to come out and support the students at EHS, in order for them to feel safe and supported. Some of the M.O.M.’s who were available, along with other community members, began going to lunch everyday to support the students, and the daily violence ended.
