Driven by her passion for positive social change and thriving, healthy communities of color she enjoys acting as a connector and seed planter working on several impactful collaborations throughout Wisconsin.
As a Certified Peer Specialist and lived experience public speaker Tara subscribes to a “each one teach one” knowledge and skill sharing ideology that she believes is key to challenging systemic injustice. She has presented and trained on topics such as valuing & integrating the voice of lived experience, implicit bias and understanding culture/power/privilege to audiences on a national, state, and local level. Her unique approach and compassionate delivery make conquering these difficult conversations an act of bravery and not an exercise in guilt, shame, or fear.
We all have work to do to create a safer, more just society – Tara believes that together we can!
Join us for an interactive discussion where experienced service providers can share their thoughts and expertise on what youth peer support should be in the state of Wisconsin. This engaging discussion will explore the key elements of effective youth peer support programs, including curriculum development, best practices, and the most efficient approaches. Participants will have the opportunity to hear firsthand from professionals who serve youth and learn about their vision for creating impactful peer support services. By delving into their collective wisdom, attendees will gain valuable insights that can shape the future of youth peer support initiatives, ensuring they are tailored to meet the unique needs of young individuals in Wisconsin. Don’t miss this chance to be part of a conversation that can make a difference in the lives of youth across the state.

This CPS & CPPS Community of Practice Session will be about meeting youth and families where they are at and working to build the connections through culturally significant ways, peer support and strength based language.

“‘Something’s Changed’: When Youth are Struggling (Pandemic Impact Series)” ~ February 17th, 2022 from 1:30pm-3pm CST
Guest facilitators: Carmella Glenn of WI Department of Health Services and Kaziah Anderson of Just Dane
Carmella is CPS and CPS trainer and the Peer Run Respite & Peer Services Coordinator at the Division of Care and Treatment Services. Kaziah is a CPS and CPPS and is studying Community and Nonprofit Leadership at UW-Madison, with a focus on adolescent development and the effects of parental incarceration on children and families.
Description:
Guest facilitators, Carmella Glenn, CPS, CPS Trainer and Kaziah Anderson, CPS, CPPS, will facilitate a discussion on how those in peer specialist and parent peer specialist roles can respond to better support youth and our communities. The guest facilitators will also share how those in peer support roles have done just that with community collaborators and partners at East High School in Madison, WI in recent months.
When the violence at East High School escalated to the point of police macing students, Mom’s On A Mission (M.O.M.’s) was formed by 4 mothers of EHS students, who are also alumni of EHS. These M.O.M.s began forming a group to encourage the community to come out and support the students at EHS, in order for them to feel safe and supported. Some of the M.O.M.’s who were available, along with other community members, began going to lunch everyday to support the students, and the daily violence ended.
