trainings to qualify to take the WI Peer Specialist Certification Exam. Many of
the callers want to know if there are going to be ‘free’ trainings.
Unless training is sponsored or subsidized by a funding resource, there will most
likely be some type of fee to attend. The current posted training from DBSA
that is coming to Milwaukee in July is $975.00. DBSA does not provide scholarships.
Those individuals in the past who were fortunate enough to have attended trainings at
little or no cost to them were because the trainings were funded/sponsored by
another source i.e. county, state, private organization.
Currently, there are four state-approved Peer Specialist Training Curriculums. They are
all currently under review and a decision will be made by the WI-DHS/BPTR as to
which one’s will remain. There will also be requirements as to what qualifies a
person to be a trainer. The decision will be made by mid-summer.
We (ATI) post the training schedules as we receive them on the Careers page and have no oversight as to when
and where they will be offered or how much they will cost. It is strictly up to the trainers of the curriculums. Training is left up to the free market. There is NO set rate for trainings.
