The National Association of Peer Specialists (NAPS) is an organization dedicated to promoting peer specialists throughout the United States. We are a group of dedicated peer specialists seeking ways to improve the effectiveness of the mental health system through the hiring of other peer specialists.
To receive information about the Consumer As Providers (CAP) Peer Specialist training curriculum:
The mission of NAMI Wisconsin is to improve the quality of life of people affected by mental illnesses and to promote recovery. The Consumers as Providers Training Program teaches consumers of mental health services the skills and knowledge on the provision of mental health services in order to work in the mental health or human service field as a consumer provider such as a Certified Peer Specialist. CAP is a Kansas Certified Peer Specialist Training Program that consists of 18 weeks classroom instruction and Educational Support Group followed by 104 hours (7 weeks) of internship activities. The CAP Training partners with mental health agencies across the state of Kansas, Kansas universities and community colleges and social service and mental health agencies. Students do not receive college credit for the course and are not guaranteed a job upon completion of the course, however; research conducted with the program demonstrates that over half of the students who complete the course find employment and a third of graduates continue their education following the class.

The Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA) is the leading patient-directed national organization focusing on the most prevalent mental illnesses. The organization fosters an environment of understanding about the impact and management of these life-threatening illnesses by providing up-to-date, scientifically based tools and information written in language the general public can understand. DBSA supports research to promote more timely diagnosis, develop more effective and tolerable treatments, and discover a cure. The organization works to ensure that people living with mood disorders are treated equitably.

Wisconsin United for Mental Health (WUMH) is a coalition of Wisconsin citizens who share a dream of a society in which people are not labeled or judged as lesser or unworthy on the basis of health diagnosis. The coalition is committed to working in unity for the purpose of eliminating the stigma of mental illnesses. National Mental Health Consumer's Self-Help Clearinghouse
The National Mental Health Consumers' Self-Help Clearinghouse, the nation's first national consumer technical assistance center, has played a major role in the development of the mental health consumer movement. The consumer movement strives for dignity, respect, and opportunity for those with mental illnesses.
