New Horizons North/Ashland Having Certified Peer Specialists on staff provides participants with an important addition on their recovery journey. People have someone on their support team that has experienced similar circumstances. This shared experience encourages people to take healthy risks and reduce loneliness. Peer specialists offer people direct proof that recovery from mental illness is possible.

NAMI Greater Milwaukee Hiring Certified Peer Specialists to work at NAMI Greater Milwaukee has been extremely valuable to the work we do and it is difficult to imagine a workplace that would not experience the same results. In living a life of recovery, one learns what no book or school can teach. Through training, Peer Specialists are able to transfer what they have learned in their own recovery to support and respectfully assist others with their own recovery journey. We have seen great results from the Peer Specialist program ranging from participants no longer isolating, becoming employed to a 46% reduction in psychiatric hospital admissions.
